One-Hitter for Indians’ Nagy
Charles Nagy snapped out of a slump by just missing a no-hitter Saturday night at Baltimore.
Glenn Davis hit a grounder to deep shortstop and easily beat it out with one out in the seventh inning for the only hit as the Cleveland Indians whipped the Orioles, 6-0.
Nagy, who was 0-3 since the All-Star break, improved his record to 12-7 with his third shutout and eighth complete game.
“If it had happened, it probably would have been the greatest thing that happened in my life,” Nagy said of a no-hitter. “But we won, so I’m happy with that.”
Albert Belle, just back from a three-day suspension, doubled in the first Indian run and followed Carlos Baerga’s two-run home run in the third with his 21st home run.
Nagy, who had not won since July 8, walked Brady Anderson to open the game, then retired 15 batters before issuing his other walk to Bill Ripken in the sixth.
