PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Long Longs for Bay Area

Share

Defensive lineman Howie Long is the last of the Raiders to have played when the team was in Oakland, and memories of those days come flooding back to him whenever the team returns to the Bay Area as it did Saturday night for the team’s exhibition opener against the San Francisco 49ers.

“It always has a special feeling to it,” Long said. “It’s just amazing to me having played there how big a fish you are. In L.A., you’re just a guppie. You’re not even a bass. The fans that do show up in L.A. are great, but there’s a lot more not showing up. It’s hard to hear 40,000 people when they are a quarter of a mile away.”

No serious Raider injuries resulted from Saturday’s 24-10 loss to the 49ers. Defensive lineman Chester McGlockton and receiver Sam Graddy had to leave the game, McGlockton because of a bruised foot and Graddy because of a sore wrist, but medical tests Sunday showed no further damage. McGlockton is not expected to practice today, but Graddy might be back.
