WOODLAND HILLS : Homeowners Give Firefighters Money

Share

Members of an exclusive Woodland Hills gated community that was threatened last month by a brush fire presented a firefighters’ association Monday with a check for $1,070, authorities said.

The money, which was donated by homeowners of a community called Westchester County, will go to the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Assn., a nonprofit organization, Los Angeles Fire Capt. Stephen Ruda said. The money has been earmarked for a fund that helps widows and orphans of firefighters as well as disabled firefighters.

“The generosity of the people of Woodland Hills is greatly appreciated,” Ruda said.

The community of about 100 houses in the hills off Wells Drive was threatened by a 60-acre brush fire July 30. More than 300 county and city firefighters battled the blaze, dropping water from helicopters to prevent it from spreading to the houses.

Only one house suffered minor roof damage, and there were no injuries, Ruda said.
