A 13-year-old Salvadoran girl was kidnaped and raped by a man posing as a taxi driver after she and her brother arrived at Los Angeles International Airport to visit their mother, Los Angeles police said Friday.

Investigators said that about seven hours after the abduction, a passerby, Ricardo Marquez, found the girl standing on a corner in Van Nuys. Using an address he found on her luggage, he drove the girl to her mother’s home.

The teen-ager and her brother arrived at the Bradley International Terminal shortly after midnight Thursday on a TACA International Airlines flight from San Salvador, Police Officer Francine Carrasco Spada said.

“They were supposed to be met by their mother and their aunt, but there was no one there to meet them,” Spada said.

Spada said that when the two teen-agers reached the sidewalk in front of the terminal, a man in a red car drove up, identified himself as a taxi driver and offered them a ride. Spada said that when they turned down his offer, he left, but returned twice, telling them the second time that he thought he had seen their mother.

“So they got in the (car), and he put their luggage in the vehicle,” Spada said. “He drove around for a while, then returned to the terminal and took the boy into the building with him. Suddenly, he turned around, ran back, got in the (car) and drove off with the girl.”

Spada said the girl was raped and sodomized before being dropped off at Sepulveda and Burbank boulevards in Van Nuys about 8 a.m. The officer said Marquez, who works nearby, saw the girl and took her to her mother’s home.

According to police, the mother had searched for her children at the airport, returned home, and then gone back to the airport, where she found her son alone at the international terminal. The mother called police, who were searching for the girl when she arrived at her mother’s home.

Spada said the teen-agers described the suspect as 5 feet, 4 inches, to 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 180 to 200 pounds. They said he spoke Spanish.
