2 Aftershocks of June 28 Quakes Rattle Southland
Two aftershocks of the twin earthquakes on June 28 rolled through Southern California on Saturday, rattling nerves but causing no damage or injuries.
The first temblor struck at 1:24 a.m. and had a magnitude 4.7, said Steve Bryant, a spokesman for the Caltech in Pasadena. The quake, an aftershock of the magnitude 7.5 quake that struck Landers on June 28, was centered seven miles southeast of Yucca Valley, he said.
A second earthquake, with a magnitude 3.5, occurred at 11:18 a.m., Bryant said. The smaller temblor was centered seven miles southwest of Big Bear Lake and was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.6 quake that hit Big Bear shortly after the Landers quake.
The June 28 quakes killed a child, injured more than 400 people and caused $92 million in damage.
