Owner Will Let Perret Ride Alydeed His Way
What Roger Attfield, Alydeed’s trainer, tells jockey Craig Perret could determine how Saturday’s Travers unfolds.
At least that’s the opinion of one rival trainer.
“I think what Roger tells Craig will have a lot do with the way the race is run,” said Richie O’Connell, who will saddle Thunder Rumble.
What will Attfield tell Perret? Not much.
“When the gate opens, things happen that aren’t supposed to happen and it’s up to the jockey to decide,” Attfield said.
Dixie Brass has been installed as the 3-1 early second choice behind 5-2 Alydeed, with Thunder Rumble next at 5-1.
Dixie Brass will be ridden by Julio Pezua, while Thunder Rumble will start from the No. 10 post under Herb McCauley.
Alydeed drew the No. 5 post.
The only horses in the Travers to have raced at 1 1/4 miles are Dance Floor, third in the Kentucky Derby; Devil His Due, 12th in the Derby, and Bien Bien, winner at the distance in the Swaps at Hollywood Park on July 25.
Completing the Travers field are Furiously, Tank’s Number, Hold Old Blue and Lee n Otto.
