Doug Hauenstein, a 31-year-old screen printer from Aurora, Ohio, shot a six-under-par 66 to lead the first round of qualifying for the 92nd U.S. Amateur at Dublin, Ohio.
Asked what his goal was in the second round, Hauenstein said, “Break 80.”
Two-time defending junior national amateur champion Tiger Woods of Cypress--the youngest player in the field of 312--faded on the back nine to shoot a 78.
