Teresa Palmisano of Thousand Oaks signed a professional contract earlier this month for $50,000 to play basketball for a women’s team in Rambouillet, France, her father, Joe Palmisano, said Wednesday.

Palmisano, 22, began playing for the Rambouillet team last Monday, seven days after signing. Rambouillet is about 30 miles outside Paris.

“So far she’s had a tough go of it,” Joe Palmisano said. “She had to learn to speak French in a hurry.”

Palmisano, who began her career at Thousand Oaks High, is a 6-foot-2 center who earned All-American honors as a senior at California in 1990-91. She averaged 17.5 points and 10.1 rebounds a game that season.

Palmisano’s sister, Michelle, the only athlete at Thousand Oaks to have a jersey retired, will play for UCLA in the fall.
