BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Royals, Expos Trade Minor Leaguers
The Kansas City Royals obtained pitchers Chris Haney and Bill Sampen from the Montreal Expos on Saturday in exchange for third baseman Sean Berry and pitcher Archie Corbin.
All four players were in the minor leagues, but Haney was penciled in to start Monday night’s home game against the Texas Rangers.
“Haney will start for sure,” Royal Manager Hal McRae said. “He’s a finesse-type of left-hander, a typical left-hander. He changes speeds and has good control.”
Sampen will be activated Tuesday when rosters can be expanded to 40 players. Berry joined the Expos in Houston, and Corbin will go to triple-A Indianapolis.
