OUTLOOK

The defending league champions return two quality linemen in Avalos and Garcia, who will start on both sides of the line. Avalos is a returning all-league selection as an offensive guard and is one of the top linemen in the county. Hinman, the offensive coordinator at Loara High the past two years, replaces the county’s all-time winning coach, Dick Hill, now an assistant at Foothill High. Fausto and Castrita are vying for the starting quarterback spot, and Hinman said both will get equal time in the Saints’ opener against Esperanza. “We’ll make a decision on the starter after the first game,” Hinman said. Fausto suffered a leg injury at free safety in Santa Ana’s opener last year and never returned to the lineup. Hinman’s brother, Chuck, will serve as the team’s defensive coordinator. Hinman is picking his team to finish fifth in the eight-team league. “I think the at-large team in the Division II playoffs will come from our league,” he said.
