The season may be over before it begins for Alabama flanker David Palmer, who was suspended indefinitely after his second drunken driving arrest in two months.

“The bottom line is David has got to realize the consequences of his actions,” Coach Gene Stallings said.

Stallings also said he is not giving up on the sophomore, who was jailed early Sunday--hours after the coach benched him in the season opener for the first drunk driving case.

“I really think in David’s career right now, he needs us, he needs me,” Stallings said. “I’m not going to turn my back on him.”
