Preview ’92 : Daytime’s credo: Live better and talk, talk, talk

Two very familiar TV faces, Joan Rivers and actress Vicki Lawrence, get new daytime talks shows this fall, as does familiar radio voice Rush Limbaugh.

It’s pretty much business as usual, though, for daytime this fall with a mix of game shows and informational series.

Here is what’s new to daytime, with premiere dates:

Broadcast

KNBC: “Life Choices With Eric Chapman”--The president and CEO of U.S. Health Corp. hosts a weekly series designed to motivate viewers to live healthier lives. Kathleen Sullivan is the news correspondent, Sundays at 5 a.m. (Sept. 20). (Also Sundays at 10 a.m. on San Diego’s KNSD.)

KCAL: “Vicki!”--Vicki Lawrence of “The Carol Burnett Show” and “Mama’s Family” throws her hat into the ever-expanding talk-show ring, weekdays at 9 a.m. (already premiered). (Also weekdays at 10 a.m. on KNSD.)

“Knights & Warriors”--Sports fantasy competition show (see story, Page 102), Saturdays at 11 a.m. (Saturday). (Also airs Saturdays at 7 p.m. on San Diego’s KTTV.)

KCOP: “Rush Limbaugh”--The controversial, conservative radio personality hosts a daily talk show, weekdays at 3:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. (Monday). (Also airs weekdays at 12:30 a.m. on San Diego’s KGTV.)

Cable

BET: “For Black Men Only”--This male-oriented discussion program provides a forum for African-American men to express their feelings, opinions and thoughts on issues of special interest, Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. (Saturdays).

“Triple Threat”--Spencer Christian, weatherman of ABC’s “Good Morning, America,” hosts a new game show pitting three-person teams in a test of musical knowledge, Mondays-Thursdays at 4 p.m. (Monday).

CNBC: “Your Portfolio”--Live interactive series offering viewers advice on their investments, weekdays at 4 p.m. (Sept. 21).

“Money Politics”--Focus on economic issues leading up to the November presidential election, weekdays at 4:30 p.m. (Sept. 21).

CNN: “Living in the ‘90s With Christie Brinkley”--That “Uptown Girl” model and wife of Billy Joel hosts this infotainment series, which will have a different focus every day. Topics to be explored are health, travel, style, food and show business. Brinkley also will add her own observations, weekdays at 7:30 a.m. (Monday).

The Discovery Channel

“Graham Kerr”--The “Galloping Gourmet” prepares healthy and delicious meals, weekdays at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. (Sept. 28)

Lifetime: “Born Lucky”--Bob Goen travels to shopping centers around the country, choosing four contestants from the malls to perform creative and imaginative stunts against time in order to win up to $2,000, weekdays at 1:30 p.m. (Oct. 5).

The Nashville Network: “Shadetree Mechanic”--Dave Bowman and Sam Memmolo host this series dedicated to the do-it-yourselfer and offers quick-fix, cost-saving auto tips, Sundays at 9 a.m. (Oct. 4).

USA: “Joan Rivers’ Gossip! Gossip! Gossip!’--The Emmy-winning comedian and talk-show host dishes up the dirt on her new weekly cable gab show, Saturdays at 4 p.m.; Sundays at 6:30 p.m. (Oct. 3).
