School: Cypress High

Sport: Volleyball

Position: Middle blocker

Class: Senior

Most of last season Lowe was either sidelined or slowed by a pulled stomach muscle. But this year she seems to have returned to the form that made her the Empire League’s most valuable player as a sophomore in 1990. In the Valencia tournament Saturday, Lowe had 16 kills in Cypress’ two-game victory over Rosary in the semifinal match and 14 in the Centurions’ three-game victory over Esperanza in the title match. The 30 kills in five games would have surpassed her school record of 29 in a five-game match. She also had seven aces and three blocks in the two matches. Lowe was named the tournament’s MVP. “She’s got a lot of experience,” Cypress Coach Jerry Gregg said. “In her club experience she has played against people who are starting for UCLA, and most kids haven’t seen that. In pool play she hit a couple of balls that were ricocheting all over the other courts.”

Other top performers:

Barbara Boisvert, an Orange Lutheran cross-country runner who ran 18 minutes 57 seconds for three miles and finished second at the Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Invitational.

Kristina Dahlberg, who finished seventh in 19:56 at the Bronco Invitational and led El Modena to the team title.
