Cooper Beats Pepeli in Heavyweight Bout
Rocky Pepeli of Burbank was stopped by Bert Cooper of Philadelphia in the eighth round Tuesday night in a scheduled 10-round heavyweight fight in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Pepeli (16-4-1) lost every round. In the eighth, he was knocked down twice by Cooper (29-9), and the referee halted the fight with 50 seconds left in the round.
Pepeli weighed 228 pounds and Cooper, who nearly defeated heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield last year, weighed 233, 15 pounds more than he had in a fight seven weeks ago.
