Police arrested two juveniles Thursday in connection with last week’s shooting outside Loara High School that left a pair of students seriously wounded.

The suspects, both 15 and Anaheim residents, were not identified by authorities because of their ages. They were being held by Orange County juvenile authorities Thursday night on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder, Police Sgt. Chet Barry said.

Barry said the youths were arrested without incident about 10 a.m. at their homes after investigators were able to match descriptions provided by witnesses at the scene of Friday’s shooting.

Both shooting victims, Bigoberto Nava Adame, 18, and George Lopez, 16, are students at Anaheim High School. Adame, shot in the shoulder, buttocks and calf, was expected to be discharged from UCI Medical Center in Orange Thursday night. Lopez, who suffered a single wound to the abdomen, has been released, hospital officials said.

Although authorities still do not know what sparked the after-school shooting, which scattered lingering students and players at a nearby football practice, police believe that the attacks were gang-related.

According to initial police reports, the two victims were sitting in Adame’s car, which was parked on Euclid Street near Palais Road, when they were approached by two youths on foot.

At the time, police believed some type of challenge was issued. The youths then got out of the car, at which time they were shot.

The attackers reportedly ran north on Euclid, throwing a .38-caliber revolver into some shrubbery fronting an office building near the school. Police later found the weapon.

After the shooting, the bleeding victims drove about a half a mile to Lopez’s home where paramedics were called.
