Fottball Is Good for a Few Kicks
John H. Steineman’s letter (Viewpoint, Sept. 12) pays lip service to the foot in football. Kicking goals, extra points speak to the essence of football. Additionally, unpredictable happenstance resulting from other foot and ball contacts, designed or haphazard, adds to the gridiron drama.
If kicking goals is totally irrelevant to the essential action of a football game, what the hell’s a drum major doing on the field? Lighten up, John. You’ll get a kick out of football.
