Ken Green had five birdies over his last nine holes to complete a six-under-par 65 that gave him a two-shot lead over John Daly and three others in the opening round of the $800,000 B.C. Open at Endicott, N.Y.
Daly, Keith Clearwater, Nolan Henke and Ed Fiori each shot a 67 on the 6,996-yard En-Joie Golf Club course. Five others had 68s, and 12 players were at 69, included defending champion Fred Couples.
Daly’s short game was sharp, which was fortunate because he had trouble driving the ball in the 39-degree morning temperatures.
