TUSTIN : Spilled Asphalt Causes Traffic Jam
A pickup truck pulling a tank filled with asphalt jackknifed and overturned Tuesday morning, causing a traffic jam for two hours, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver, identified as John William Shepherd, 51, of Santa Ana, was heading south on the Santa Ana Freeway shortly after 9 a.m. when he apparently did not see traffic in front of him slowing down. He tried to stop, but the tank attached to his pickup jackknifed and spilled about 500 gallons of asphalt just south of the Costa Mesa Freeway.
There were no reported injuries and no immediate citations. The CHP investigation is continuing.
As traffic inched by, crews worked for about two hours to clean up the spill, the CHP said.
