Monterey Park : Car Alarm Ordinance

Share

Complaints about car alarms sounding in the middle of the night spurred the City Council to introduce an ordinance designed to penalize owners of the vehicles.

Under the proposal, which will receive a final vote at the council’s Oct. 12 meeting, police could cite a vehicle owner who fails to stop the alarm within five minutes.

The measure was tentatively approved on a 4-1 vote, with Councilwoman Marie T. Purvis dissenting. She said the penalties are too severe. Violators could be fined up to $100 for the first infraction, $200 for a second within a year and a maximum $250 for more than two.
