PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Montoya to Miss Another Month
Now in his 14th NFL season, guard Max Montoya could be excused for hating the drudgery of practice.
But it’s just the opposite.
He hates missing it.
Montoya has been sidelined 2 1/2 weeks because of ligament damage in his right knee and will miss at least another month.
“It’s real tough to have to watch the games,” said Montoya, 36. “But it’s tough just to have to watch practice. I think I could be out there improving, even at my age.”
Montoya, who was hurt when a Cincinnati Bengal fell on his leg, is healing through rehabilitation rather than surgery.
But, he said, “There is no exercise that can help you heal quicker.”
The Raiders did not announce any personnel changes Thursday.
Tim Brown, who missed last week’s game because of a pulled hamstring, will return to his position at wide receiver Sunday against the New York Giants, rejoining fellow receiver Willie Gault in the starting lineup.
With Sam Graddy out because of a broken arm, Mervyn Fernandez becomes the third receiver with tight end David Jones the backup.
There has been speculation that the team might bring up Daryl Hobbs or Ty Montgomery from the developmental squad to bolster the receiving corps.
Guard Todd Peat was back at practice Thursday. He had been excused Wednesday to go to Phoenix where his newborn son, Marion Todd Peat II, was experiencing complications. Peat said that his son’s condition had improved. . . . Defensive lineman Aundray Bruce missed his second day of practice because of what was described as a personal matter.
