Los Amigos’ Chance to Win Sails Wide Right

Los Amigos quarterback Ape Tuato completed a 27-yard pass to Noah Tagatuli on fourth and 20 for a touchdown with five seconds left in the game, and it seemed as if the Lobos were about to beat Kennedy in a thriller in the Garden Grove League opener for both teams Friday night at Glover Stadium.

But the extra-point attempt by Jose Martinez went wide right, and Los Amigos had to settle for a 20-20 tie.

About 1 1/2 minutes earlier, Kennedy (2-1-1, 0-0-1) had taken a 20-14 lead when quarterback John Guthrie, who completed 14 of 20 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns, completed a four-yard pass to Jermaine Church for the score.

Ray Mobley, who gained 73 yards in 20 carries, ran for the two-point conversion. The score culminated an eight-play, 99-yard drive by the Irish.

Los Amigos (1-1-2, 0-0-1) drew 13 penalties for 105 yards, and failed to capitalize on good field position in the second half.

Tuato completed 10 of 17 passes for 164 yards. Tagatuli rushed for 171 yards in 26 carries and scored three touchdowns.

The Lobos John McMills caught seven passes for 101 yards.
