Santiago Picks Off Victory at Bolsa Grande
Santiago turned two interceptions into touchdowns Friday night and the Cavaliers won for the first time this season, posting a 20-6 victory over winless Bolsa Grande at Bolsa Grande.
After Minh Nguyen intercepted a Brian Baughman pass late in the first quarter, Geoff Noisey’s 10-yard run gave Santiago (1-4, 1-1) a 6-0 lead. Bolsa Grande (0-5, 0-2) pulled even later in the quarter when Adam Gilbert broke free for an 89-yard touchdown run.
Gilbert turned out to be the Matadors’ sole offensive weapon. He finished with 137 yards in 19 carries and added 15 yards on Baughman’s only two completions.
After Nguyen scored on a five-yard run to give Santiago a 12-6 lead midway through the third quarter, Jason Calderwood intercepted a Baughman pass and that led to a 10-yard touchdown pass from Louie Perez to Robert Wiemann.
