PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Loss Was a Turning Point

Share

It happened more than a year ago, back when Ray Handley was undefeated as the New York Giants’ coach, when the Rams were thinking playoff berth, and nobody booed the Giants when they were at home.

In Week 2 of last season, the Rams upset the Giants, then coming off a thrilling, season-opening defeat of the San Francisco 49ers. The score was 19-13, and the memory of it remains.

“Pretty substantial memory,” said Handley, who has since heard many, many calls for his firing. “There’s a lot of things different about this football team than that football team, but that was a big disappointment to us, not that the Rams didn’t come in here and earn that victory.

“But we were disappointed that we weren’t able to put something on top of our win over S.F. We just haven’t been able to string together very many victories.”

Ram Coach Chuck Knox said the team’s upcoming bye week doesn’t give this Sunday’s game against the Giants any added importance.

“We’ve done it both ways,” Knox said. “I don’t attach any special significance to it. The only thing that makes the bye week nice is if you win the week before, because then you can live a little easier.”

Wide receiver Flipper Anderson missed another day of practice Friday with tightness in his hamstring, but Knox said Anderson should be ready for Sunday.
