Gaston figures Brave owner Ted Turner owes him.
In 1976, when Gaston was a reserve outfielder with the Braves and Turner was in his more erratic and eccentric period as the team’s owner, Turner managed the team for one game of a 17-game losing streak before being banished upstairs by then-commissioner Bowie Kuhn.
To complete his uniform, Turner borrowed Gaston’s spikes, the only size 12s he could find in the clubhouse.
“Borrowed?” Gaston said. “I never got them back.”
