San Diego : Driver in Drive-By Killing Sent to Jail
A 21-year-old Imperial Beach man was sentenced to one year in jail and five years’ probation Thursday for his role in a fatal drive-by shooting.
Robert Windel Connelly, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, was also ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution to family of Alfredo Rodriguez, a 41-year-old shipyard foreman who was gunned down outside his mobile home in Nestor on Dec. 2.
Connelly was one of four men involved in the shooting.
He was driving the vehicle from which Anthony Trevino shot Rodriguez. Trevino, 19, is serving a 30-years-to-life prison term for his conviction on first-degree murder.
Superior Court Judge Richard Murphy disregarded a recommendation from the Probation Department for a five-year prison sentence so that Rodriguez’s wife and three children would receive restitution payments.
“I wouldn’t even be considering probation here if it wasn’t for the restitution,” the judge said.
