A male bicyclist was killed early Thursday morning as he was riding his bike in the fast lane of Beach Boulevard.

The man, a resident of Huntington Beach, was riding without lights, along Beach Boulevard just north of Bishop Street at about 6:30 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a pickup truck, said Westminster police Sgt. David Stronach.

Police said that as the driver of the truck pulled into a left-turn lane to see what he had hit, the bicyclist was hit by two other vehicles as he lay in the fast lane.

“Apparently, it was so dark that people were just running over him, not knowing he was there,” Stronach said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he died a short time later. His name and age were not released pending the notification of relatives.

The three drivers were interviewed by police and were not cited.
