Five youths were arrested Tuesday in Santa Clarita on suspicion of shooting at two high school students who escaped injury, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. Deputies said the shooting was apparently gang-related.

The unidentified students were leaving the parking lot of the Jereann Bowman Continuation High School at 2:20 p.m. when they noticed five youths in a red pickup truck watching them, Deputy Robert Norlemann said. The youths followed the students as they drove west on Soledad Canyon Road.

Fearing for their safety, the students made a U-turn and headed back to campus, Norlemann said. But as they headed east on Soledad, a passenger in the pickup truck open fire on the students.
