A Newhall man died early Sunday after he stumbled into a roadway and into the side of a moving vehicle, authorities said.

Leonardo Cabrera, 32, apparently stumbled into the side of a pickup truck as it traveled south in the 24800 block of San Fernando Road about 2:40 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Vander Horck said. Cabrera was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Vander Horck said it was unclear why Cabrera stumbled into the roadway, although witnesses reported that he had been staggering alongside the street. Vander Horck said a toxicology report on Cabrera was pending.

The driver of the truck, 20-year-old Edward Latorre of Quartz Hill, was not injured in the accident, Vander Horck said. Latorre was cited for failing to produce proof of registration on the truck.

An investigation of the accident is continuing, Vander Horck said.
