A 69-year-old man was killed late Monday when his wife allegedly stabbed him during a family argument in his Normal Heights home, San Diego police said.

Choua Ye Yang was stabbed in the chest about 10 p.m. and taken by paramedics to Mercy Hospital, where he died 1 1/2 hours later, officials said.

Yang’s son and daughter-in-law said they heard him call for help from a room of the family’s second-floor apartment in the 4100 block of North 36th Street, Lt. John Welter said.

The two said they found the wounded Yang on the floor and that he told them his wife had tried to kill him, police reported. Police and neighbors found Yang’s wife, Ka Khang, 62, on the ground outside the family’s apartment. She had broken bones in her feet after either falling or jumping from a window, Welter said.

Khang was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she was in fair condition Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said. Police said Khang is under guard at the hospital and has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
