DIGEST : Myles, Dorsey Share CSUN Football Honor

Defensive lineman Victor Myles and linebacker Tyrone Dorsey earned team defensive player-of-the-week honors for Cal State Northridge. Myles made eight solo tackles, 10 overall, and recorded a sack in the Matadors’ 49-20 loss to Southern Utah. Dorsey had five solo tackles, 12 overall.

Wide receivers Saadite Green and Duc Ngo were named offensive players of the week. Green caught four passes for 92 yards and Ngo made five receptions for 77 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown catch. The special-teams player of the week was Mike Brown, who amassed a season-high 184 yards in returns (five kickoff returns and five on punts).

Dave Trembley, former Antelope Valley College baseball coach, on Wednesday was named manager of the Texas League’s Wichita Wranglers, the double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

Trembley, 41, had spent two seasons in the Padre organization managing the Class-A Charleston Rainbows of the South Atlantic League.

He spent the previous four seasons managing in the Pirate system. In 1987, Trembley was named Baseball America minor league manager of the year after leading double-A Harrisburg to the Eastern League championship.

Bill Sedgwick of Granada Hills won his second consecutive NASCAR Winston West Series championship by virtue of a 27th-place finish Sunday in the main-event season finale at Phoenix International Raceway.

In a combined main event featuring Winston West and Winston Cup competitors, Sedgwick, 37, finished fourth among Winston West entries to edge Bill Schmitt of Redding, Calif., by six points for the championship.

Schmitt, vying for a record fifth Winston West title, entered the race as the series’ points leader, holding a four-point advantage over Sedgwick. Schmitt finished sixth among Winston West drivers, 33rd overall.

The Harlem Globetrotters will play an exhibition basketball game against the Washington Generals tonight at 7:30 in the Moorpark College gym.

The Zuma Bay volleyball club has scheduled tryouts for the 1992-93 season Sunday at Thousand Oaks High. Tryouts for 16-year-old-and-under players will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Open tryouts will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
