Two Navy men were arrested late Friday in connection with the attempted murder of a cabdriver, who told San Diego police he was attacked by two passengers with a crowbar and pipe before being dumped into the middle of northbound Interstate 5.

Craig Smith, 45, said he picked up two men at the Naval Training Center, who attacked him when the cab got to the intersection of Balboa and Moraga avenues. They drove into I-5, where they pushed him onto the freeway.

The U.S. Border Patrol stopped Graham Davis, 19, and Richard Price, 19, when the cab reached the San Onofre checkpoint and arrested the pair. Both men are enlisted in the Navy and were booked into County Jail on suspicion of auto theft, attempted murder and robbery.
