Bishop Diego 17, St. Bonaventure 14--Manny Marquez kicked a 38-yard field goal with 20 seconds to play at Ventura High and the Cardinals (5-3-1, 2-0-1) clinched a Southern Section Division IX playoff berth. It will mark Bishop Diego’s first trip to the playoffs in nine years.

Marquez capped the decisive 11-play, 54-yard drive after the Cardinals moved into scoring position on a 20-yard pass from Greg Van Wyck to wingback Michael Hayes and a 12-yard pass-interference penalty that moved the ball to the Seraph 12.

Hayes racked up 189 all-purpose yards, including 115 rushing in 20 carries, and scored Bishop Diego’s first touchdown on a three-yard counter play in the first quarter. Hayes caught five passes and also intercepted a pass with seven seconds remaining to end St. Bonaventure’s last threat.
