A 19-year-old Van Nuys man riding in a pickup truck with a suspected drunk driver was killed in a car accident early Sunday, Los Angeles police said.

Henry Escobar, a passenger in the truck driven by Victor Gomez, died of massive head injuries as a result of the 2:40 a.m. accident near the intersection of Farmdale Avenue and Oxnard Street in North Hollywood, Officer Robert Robinson said.

Gomez, 23, had been driving east in an alley just south of Oxnard, Robinson said. The truck apparently hit a fence, bounced out of control, then struck and rolled over a car parked along the west curb on Farmdale.

Escobar, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Robinson said.

Gomez, who lives in North Hollywood, was booked at Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, Robinson said.
