The Washington Redskins’ offensive problems continued Sunday.

Luckily for the defending Super Bowl champions, they were playing the Seattle Seahawks.

The Redskins’ offense scored its first touchdown in 15 quarters, and Chip Lohmiller kicked three field goals as the Redskins overcame a sluggish start to defeat the Seahawks, 16-3.

“We’re the world champions until somebody beats us,” tight end Terry Orr said. “But we know that every team gets up for us more than anyone else.”

The Redskins (6-3) finally scored an offensive touchdown on a 26-yard pass from Mark Rypien to Orr 4:32 into the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks (1-8), who lost their sixth consecutive game, have scored an NFL-low 56 points, including only five touchdowns.

“In the first half, we were fighting our guts out just to make a yard,” Redskin Coach Joe Gibbs said. “Don’t sell Seattle short. They have a darn good defense.”

Rypien completed 21 of 30 passes for 248 yards and one touchdown with one interception.

Seattle’s Stan Gelbaugh completed nine of 24 passes for 75 yards with two interceptions. Chris Warren rushed for 103 yards.

The Seahawks averted their third shutout of the season when John Kasay kicked a 22-yard field goal during the first quarter.
