After a tense 2 1/2-hour standoff with police, a local man was arrested Monday on suspicion of firing a gun inside a house, authorities said.

The suspect, Jose Luna, was arrested when he walked out of his home at 204 N. Madrona Ave., said Lt. Bill Lentini of the Brea Police Department. Although no one was injured during the standoff, Luna’s pet pit bull was shot and killed while police were clearing the back yard, Lentini said.

Police were directed to the residence by a witness who flagged down a police cadet about 1 p.m. and said that someone was drinking and shooting a gun inside a home, Lentini said. Brea police surrounded the home and questioned several people as they left, he said.

“There were quite a few people inside, but when (Luna) started shooting, they left,” Lentini said.

A handgun was found inside the residence, he said.
