All five Western State Conference football players of the week are from area schools.

Eric Kiesau of Glendale, Gil Carrillo of Moorpark and Mike Gee of Ventura earned recognition for their contributions on offense. Vance Mitchell of Glendale and Lance Thomas of Moorpark shared honors for defense.

Kiesau, Glendale’s sophomore quarterback, completed 11 of 16 passes for 149 yards and four touchdowns as the Vaqueros defeated Compton, 75-0; Carrillo, a freshman fullback, rushed for 259 yards and two touchdowns to lead Moorpark past Harbor, 35-8; Gee, a freshman tailback, rushed for 190 yards and a touchdown in 27 carries to help Ventura to its first win, 24-18 over Santa Barbara City.

Armando Valdivia of Cal State Northridge has been named to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Pacific Division soccer team, and teammates Danny Daniels and Teddy Davila have earned second-team and honorable mention honors.

Valdivia, a junior midfielder from Ridgecrest Burroughs High, was the Matadors’ second-leading scorer with 25 points (10 goals and five assists).

Daniels, a senior forward from Cyprus, was Northridge’s leading scorer for the third consecutive season. He had 26 points on 10 goals and six assists. Davila, a junior midfielder from Reseda High, was one of the team’s top defenders and scored one goal.

The Cal Lutheran women’s soccer team, which won its second consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title but lost to UC San Diego, 3-2, in the West regional final Sunday, placed six players on the All-SCIAC team and five on the second team.

Forwards Rachel Wackerman and Jill Gallegos, midfielders Heidi Ramage and Vanessa Martin, and defenders Stephanie Gainey and Carla Crawford were named to the first team.

Joey Allard, Lea Stankevich, Amy Ward, Brianne O’Brien and goalie Joanne Vanderwall were named to the second team.

Although the Cal State Northridge football team is 1-2 in Western Football Conference play, the Matadors (4-5 overall) still have a chance to earn a share of the WFC title, provided they beat visiting Cal State Sacramento on Saturday and Portland State loses to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

If that happens, each of the five WFC teams will finish with a 2-2 conference record.

Although the WFC champion is not guaranteed a berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs, a WFC team usually merits selection by the tournament committee.

If all five teams are tied, such parity could mean no berth for the WFC.
