PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : TRI-VALLEY LEAGUE

Share

Bishop Diego 31, Oak Park 14--Oak Park had hoped to spoil host Bishop Diego’s Tri-Valley League football title aspirations. But minus four starters, including standout running back Tarik Smith, the Eagles lacked the firepower.

Bishop Diego (6-3-1, 3-0-1) clinched a share of its first league championship since 1982, tying Carpinteria for the title.

Oak Park (7-3, 2-2) took a 7-0 lead four plays into the game when reserve quarterback Alex Eckert connected with wide receiver Pablo Torres on a 63-yard scoring play.

The Eagles finished third in the league and will advance to the Southern Section Division X playoffs. But Oak Park will play without Smith, quarterback Damian Delfino, linebacker Brandon Heidt and guard Gregg Arbeene, all of whom were suspended for an alcohol-related offense.
