GIRLS’ TENNIS

City Section individual championships--Taft’s Brahna Pastorini and Julia Feldman, Erin Saltzman of Birmingham, Amanda Cey of El Camino Real and Michele Hirshman of Chatsworth recorded second-round wins at The Racquet Centre in Studio City.

Pastorini, the section’s top-seeded player, will play Saltzman in Friday’s quarterfinals. Hirshman and Feldman will meet in another quarterfinal.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Moorpark 87, West L.A. 84--Elijah Maxey of Moorpark scored a game-high 23 points for the visiting Raiders (3-0).

Pasadena 91, Valley 67--Wayne Carlisle scored a game-high 22 points for host Valley (0-3) in a nonconference game.

Glendale 71, Rio Hondo 67--Kenny Collins scored 17 of his team-high 21 points in the second half to lead host Glendale (1-1) in a nonconference game.

COLLEGE WRESTLING

Moorpark 23, Cypress 20--Host Moorpark (9-3, 5-0 in conference meets) clinched its 16th Western State Conference title. Recording victories for Moorpark were Jason Pratt (158 pounds), Walter Muirhead (177), Justin James (190) and Frank Blessing (heavyweight). Pratt and Muirhead recorded pins.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Hamilton 60, Kennedy 59--Wade Whitaker’s layup with 11 seconds left gave Hamilton the win in the nonleague season opener. Joe Wyatt scored a game-high 28 points for Kennedy.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Birmingham 3, Canoga Park 2--Tony Serpas scored three goals to lead the Braves (2-0-1 in league play) in the Valley Pac-8 Conference match at home.
