The combination of Brian Clark and Akili Roberson was all Locke High needed on a night in which offenses ruled. The duo led the Saints to a 62-37 win over defending City 4-A Division champion Dorsey in a first-round playoff game Friday at Huntington Park High School.

Clark, a 6-foot senior receiver, accounted for 387 yards in total offense and caught one touchdown pass, while quarterback Roberson passed for 324 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another.

Dorsey’s loss--the first to Locke in eight years--was further marred by an injury to starting quarterback Moses Malaki, who was knocked out of the game in the first quarter with a broken jaw.

Clark, who finished with four catches for 156 yards, got Locke off to a fast start by returning the opening kickoff 84 yards to set up a touchdown run by Jervon Lucas.

Dorsey came right back with a five-play, 67-yard drive capped by 10-yard run by Tino Davis to give the Dons their only lead of the game, 7-6.

Locke got a break on its next score when Dorsey punter Omar Moreno misplayed a bad snap in the end zone, which was recovered by the Saints’ Robbie Brown for a touchdown.

Locke took a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter when Lucas scored from a yard out. On the Saints’ next possession, Clark and Roberson hooked up for a 72-yard touchdown pass play to give Locke a 30-7 lead.

Dorsey cut the Saints’ lead to 30-15 when Davis scored on a 17-yard run. However, Roberson answered again for Locke with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Roy Edwards.

With Malaki out, backup quarterback Sultan Ali connected with Antonio Carrion on a 25-yard touchdown pass to close Locke’s lead to 38-15.

It was one of only four catches for Carrion, who gained 100 yards receiving. Clark couldn’t have been more pleased.

“When I read the papers, all I see is Carrion,” said Clarke, whose 387 yards in offense included 228 yards in four kickoff returns and one punt return. “I wanted to prove that he’s not the only top receiver in the area.”

Roberson continued to build the lead before the half ended with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Carl Conston.

Locke led 46-23 at halftime.

Dorsey scored first to open up the second half when linebacker Domenico Smith recovered a fumble by Joe Thompson in the end zone. After Ali passed to Carrion for the two-point conversion, the Saints’ lead was back to 15.

Locke then took to the ground with a long 74-yard drive that was capped by a one-yard touchdown sneak by Roberson. The Saints led 54-31 after Clark scored with a two-point conversion run.

The Saints scored again early in the fourth quarter when Lucas ran in from 20 yards and then for the two-point conversion to give Locke a 62-31 lead.
