COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Valley Second in State Cross-Country Meet

Irvine Valley lost its quest for a second consecutive women’s cross-county State title by finishing second to Mt. San Antonio in the meet at Fresno’s Woodward Park.

Mt. San Antonio finished with 104 points; Irvine Valley had 112. Sonja Hildebrand of Saddleback was the top Orange County finisher, placing 19th with a time of 19 minutes 8 seconds. Rancho Santiago was 16th overall.

In the championship of the Cypress men’s basketball tournament:

Cerritos 61, Cypress 60--Jaban Rouzen sank two free throws with seven seconds left to lead Cerritos (5-0) past host Cypress (4-2).

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Golden West 71, San Diego Mesa 62--Tyler Koon and Brandon Walker, with 14 points apiece, led Golden West. Golden West (2-1) led San Diego Mesa (0-4) at the half, 40-28.

In the finals of the Golden West women’s basketball tournament:

Golden West 70, College of the Sequoias 64--Frances Oda had 23 points and Melanie Iwamasa 21 points to lead Golden West in the final.

In the first round of the Southern California women’s soccer playoffs:

Cypress 3, El Camino 0--Brandi Yates scored two goals and Lana McHugh added another as Cypress (16-1) won its 13th consecutive match. El Camino ends its season 15-3-3.
