Despite five turnovers, Antelope Valley College clinched a tie for second place in the Foothill Conference with a 31-25 victory over Victor Valley on Saturday night at Antelope Valley.

The victory keeps alive Antelope Valley’s hopes for a bowl-game invitation.

Trailing, 13-7, early in the second quarter, the Marauders took the lead for good when Lamart Cooper ran 16 yards for a 14-13 lead.

With Antelope Valley leading, 21-13, Victor Valley (5-5, 3-5 in conference play) ate up nearly the first 10 minutes of the third quarter, marching from its own 16 to the Marauder 11. However, Shawn Foreman fumbled and Antelope Valley recovered.

Antelope Valley (7-2-1, 6-2) drove 81 yards in 14 plays with running back David McCovey going the final seven yards to give the Marauders a 28-13 lead.

Marauder quarterback Ryan Callahan, who completed 12 of 18 passes for 227 yards, passed seven yards to tight end Doug Ybarra for a touchdown late in the first half.
