ROUNDUP : Loyola Volleyball Team Finishes Second in West Coast Conference

Joli Eberhart and Deanna Doolittle lifted the Loyola Marymount women’s volleyball team to a 15-9, 15-13, 15-3 West Coast Conference victory over the University of San Francisco Saturday night at San Francisco.

Eberhart and Doolittle each had 11 kills as the Lions (19-12, 10-4 in WCC play) finished in second place in the conference behind Santa Clara. USF is 12-15 and 4-10.

The El Camino College men’s soccer team defeated San Diego City College, 4-3 on penalty kicks, Saturday in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

The women’s team was defeated by Cypress, 3-0.

The men’s team will play Santa Barbara on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Santa Barbara.

Top-seeded Costa Mesa High scored eight consecutive goals in the second half to rally from a two-goal deficit and defeat Mira Costa, 11-6, Friday in the Southern Section Division III water polo semifinals at the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.

Costa Mesa (23-8) advances to the Division III title match at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Belmont Plaza Pool against Trabuco Hills.

Mira Costa (24-6), making its first trip to the semifinals, seemed to turn the tide by outscoring Costa Mesa, 4-0, in the second quarter for a 5-3 lead.

But Sam Grayneli scored all four of his goals in the second half and J.R. Porter scored three of his four goals in the second half.

The Costa Mesa defense shut down Mira Costa, giving up only one second-half goal, which came with one minute 12 seconds remaining. Dave Happy led Mira Costa with three goals.
