SAN CLEMENTE : Suspects Arrested After Car Robbery

Share

Three men were being held Sunday on suspicion of robbery, auto theft and attempted kidnaping after allegedly forcing a man out of his car in San Clemente, then stealing it.

San Clemente Officer John Coppock said a 65-year-old man was getting into his 1979 Ford LTD at a market on El Camino Real at 6:15 a.m. Sunday when a younger man approached him and asked for a ride.

When the car owner refused, the younger man tried to push him into the back seat of the car, but he resisted and was then forced out of his car.

The suspect motioned to two other men, who joined him, and they drove off, Coppock said.

The owner reported the incident to police, and a short time later, a sheriff’s deputy spotted the car on the Santa Ana Freeway near Jeffrey Road in Irvine and arrested the three men in it.

Their identities were unknown Sunday.

The car owner was not hurt.
