A 24-year-old Marine from Camp Pendleton was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon early Saturday after he stabbed and bit another man, police said.

Police said they arrested Eric M. McHenry at a house in the 200 block of Avenida Miramar. Officers were called to the residence about 4 a.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Willie Moreno.

Moreno said McHenry stabbed and bit Jeronimo (Ron) Berkeley, 38, of Oceanside in a dispute over McHenry’s girlfriend, who was not identified. Berkeley had been stabbed in the head and the hand and bitten on the arm and finger, Moreno said.

Moreno described the wounds as being extensive but not life threatening. Berkeley was treated at a local hospital, Moreno said.

Moreno said the two men and McHenry’s girlfriend had been drinking in the Avenida Miramar residence, and that McHenry apparently had passed out. When McHenry awoke, he saw his girlfriend with Berkeley and became consumed in “a jealous rage,” said Moreno.

McHenry is being held in the San Clemente Jail, and bail has been set at $25,000.
