Police are puzzled by a double-shooting in which one person died Sunday night in an area known for cruising, a police official said.

UCI Medical Center officials pronounced Ramiro Corona, 18, of Garden Grove dead on arrival from a bullet wound to the head.

Another victim, Marlon Muniz, 17, of Santa Ana was taken to Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana and then transferred to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo where he was listed in fair condition with a bullet wound to the arm, said Wendy Harle, a hospital spokeswoman.

Witnesses told police that a group of people was standing by the Sav-On Drugs store in the 1400 block of Main Street about 10 p.m. when a carload of people drove by and one of them opened fired, Lt. Bob Helton said.

“We don’t know if any words were spoken between the people in the car and those standing on the parking lot,” Helton said. “It’s a mystery; we don’t know for sure if it’s a random shooting or not.”

Helton also said investigators were unable to obtain information on what kind of vehicle the assailants were driving.

“We’re hoping witnesses can come forward and help us,” Helton said.
