COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL ROUNDUP : Oklahoma Holds Off Oregon State

Bryatt Vann made four free throws in the final 42 seconds and No. 15 Oklahoma made seven of eight in the final minute to hold off Oregon State, 78-75, Thursday night at Norman, Okla.

The run-and-gun Sooners (1-0) were bothered by Oregon State’s tempo but finally took a 68-57 lead with 4 1/2 minutes left. The Beavers (1-1) then went on a final surge that was highlighted by three three-point baskets.

Brent Barry’s three-pointer got Oregon State to within 75-73 with 12 seconds left, but Angelo Hamilton made a free throw with eight seconds left and Vann added two more with six seconds remaining.

Barry missed a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer.

No. 20 Tulane 96, Nicholls State 54--The Green Wave’s trapping, pressing defense forced 34 turnovers in a rout of the Colonels at New Orleans.

It was Tulane’s first game without Kim Lewis, the team’s leading scorer last season. Lewis broke his left leg in a 102-92 loss at Indiana in the second round of the preseason NIT on Nov. 20. Tulane is 2-1.

Elsewhere, Devon Satterwhite’s basket with 11 seconds left gave Fresno State (2-0) an 80-78 victory over Oregon (1-3) at Fresno. . . . Daryl Scott had 14 points and San Jose State (1-1) scored 10 points in a row before surviving an 11-point run by Stanford (1-1) in a 56-52 victory at San Jose.
