PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : This Blocking Hasn’t Been Special
After a good start, the Raiders’ special teams have had problems.
The latest example was Sunday at San Diego, when the Chargers outplayed the Raiders’ special teams.
“Our problem wasn’t with the return men,” Coach Art Shell said. “We had to take a look at the people blocking. They created a situation where our return guys didn’t have a chance.”
Shell did not make any wholesale changes on the kicking teams this week, but several Raiders stayed after practice working on special teams.
“We do not plan to make any move,” Shell said. “But there is only so much you can do with the personnel on the team.”
Several Raiders who were injured against San Diego will probably play against Kansas City, including: wide receiver Tim Brown (ankle), offensive tackle Max Montoya (knees) and fullback Steve Smith (neck).
