COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Heredia, Brown Lead Christ College Past Claremont

Christ College Irvine shot 56% from the field and posted a 73-55 nonconference men’s basketball victory over Claremont-Mudd Saturday at Claremont.

Agustin Heredia scored 20 points, and D’Andre Brown added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles, who outscored Claremont-Mudd, 40-29, in the second half.

CCI held Claremont-Mudd to 31% shooting from the field, and also forced 23 turnovers. Darren Lax had eight steals for CCI.

In another nonconference men’s game:

UC Davis 74, Chapman 69--Center Shanan Rosenberg scored 18 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead host UC Davis (2-3).

UC Davis pulled away in the tight game by scoring seven of the final 10 points.

Jeff Gardner led Chapman (1-4) with 18 points, making 10 of 17 free throws. Brian Kenney added 16 for the Panthers.

Omari Smith scored 15 points and Evan Jones had 13 points and 10 rebounds for UC Davis, which outrebounded Chapman, 47-25.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Cal State Fullerton 79, Fresno State 76--Allison Jackson had 19 points to lead Fullerton (1-2), which outscored Fresno State (1-3), 43-33, in the second half. Shayla Bradshaw had 18 points and six assists, and Shefonda Colbert had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Titans. Suzanne Zahasky had 22 points for Fresno.

Southern California College 69, Biola 50--Cyndi Lyons had 30 points and 11 rebounds and Jamie Zitterkopf had 21 points and 16 rebounds for host SCC (5-2). Biola is 4-3.

Cal State Dominguez 78, Christ College Irvine 48--Dionne Vanlandingham and Karee Bonde had 19 points each to lead host Dominguez Hills (3-3). Talia Crooks and Genevieve Graff each scored 14 points for CCI (6-2).
