Five suspected robbers were arrested Monday after they led authorities on a wild chase down the Antelope Valley Freeway--tossing guns, jewelry and money out the window as they weaved through traffic at speeds of more than 100 m.p.h., Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

The 30-minute chase came to an end about 2 p.m. near Santa Clarita after one of the two getaway cars crashed and the other blew its engine. One of the fleeing men suffered a broken leg in the crash, but no one else was injured.

The five men were being held in lieu of $35,000 bail apiece on suspicion of armed robbery for the holdup of the Mills Jewelry shop in Lancaster. Authorities said the men fled with about $120,000 worth of jewelry, most of which was found littered along the freeway.

“There were a lot of gold necklaces, watches, diamond rings scattered all over the roadway,” California Highway Patrol Officer John Manduca said. “It was just strewn all over. We’ve accounted for a majority of the stuff, but I’m sure some stuff escaped us.”

The arrested men were identified as Collis Brazil, 27, Corral Greenwood, 25, and Frank Pace, 18, all of Los Angeles. The other two men refused to give their names and had not been identified late Monday.
