On a night when Brea-Olinda had one starter sitting out and another slowed by illness, Hudson responded with her best game of the season, getting 32 points and 19 rebounds in the Ladycats’ 75-63 victory over Costa Mesa Friday. “We were only 45% of what we could have been that night,” Brea Coach Mark Trakh said. “That was the night Colleen really had to come through.” Hudson, 6 feet 1, scored 11 points in Brea’s 48-45 victory over Playa del Rey St. Bernard in the championship game Saturday. With 15 seconds remaining, she scored after a rebound to give the Ladycats their final victory margin. Hudson was named co-most valuable player of the tournament with teammate Nicole Erickson. Hudson is averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds for Brea (8-0).

Other top performers:

Jody Caruso, who was named most valuable player of the El Dorado basketball tournament after scoring 12 of her 16 points in the first quarter of El Dorado’s 51-28 victory over Downey in the title game.

Carrie Garritson, a Buena Park runner who finished 19th in the Kinney national cross-country championships, running three miles in 18 minutes 38 seconds.

Denise Kenyon, who was named offensive most valuable player of the Irvine soccer tournament after helping El Toro to a 1-0 victory over Laguna Hills in the title match.

Linda Rodriguez, who scored 21 points in La Quinta’s 62-20 victory over Saddleback in the championship of the Santa Ana Valley tournament.
